Honeysuckle & Lightning Bugs - cut X cut

  • TEMPORARY INSANITY

"I pretty much spent my whole life searching for things that were already instilled within me. And when I found those things I found purpose, so I was temporarily insane and I’m glad that I found purpose in music."

  • HEADNOD

It’s simple and straight to the point, all it takes is a head nod to start any situation. You know what I’m saying? Just a little “yes!” and it can go from or it can go to anywhere: “Head Nod.”

  • FUNKY TONK

At the end of the day when you get to the end of the record, “Funky Tonk,” you understand that it’s about having fun and living your life to the fullest but not getting carried away and getting behind the wheel. Thankfully, you know, blessings come in different disguises.

  • COUNTRYTIME

“CountryTime” is one of those songs that I pretty much wrote in a fantasy world, but I had lost everything in reality. When it comes to, you know, money, which ain’t that important but we need those things to live comfortably. And I seen a movie and it almost, you know, broke me down and I remember being in tears and just thinking to myself “maybe I should rob a bank.” That would have been the dumbest decision I ever made. Thankfully I never went forward with any of that. And the purpose within that song is “just let life catch up with you because your circumstances will change. Just hold on.”

  • GEORGIA POWER

“Georgia Power” talks about people taking your energy away and you having to get it back. Just get your feelings in line. You know, look forward, don’t look back and just chase your greatness.

  • GEMINI (DAMN RIGHT)

“Gemini (Damn Right)” pretty much, you know, take a break, get on the road, let the wind hit your face. And just have fun, just let it go. There’ll be problems along the way, but you’ll learn how to deal with them. Be great.

  • GHETT OL MEMORIES

When I wrote “Ghett Ol Memories,” I was just thinking about all the things that kind of tie both of my worlds together from the country back to the hood, you know what I’m saying? Those lightning bugs and things that made everything familiar and brought it full circle: “Ghett Ol Memories.”

  • DON’T LOVE HER

I messed up in a situation within my relationship and I just wanted to let my woman know that I didn’t love the woman that I messed up with. You know what I’m saying? So please just take me back. You never know, second chances do come but don’t take them for granted.

  • Tn WHISKEY

“Tn Whiskey,” you know, some people are champagne and some people are whiskey. When we think about champagne, we think about the chipper, bubbly things in life, toasting to greatness. And champagne and “Tn Whiskey” just don’t mix. Listen to the lyrics and I hope ya’ll enjoy. You know what I’m saying? ‘Cause I wrote it from this space.

  • THE GIT UP

I wrote “The Git Up” in a place of joy and happiness. I knew it would be a song that would make people smile then laugh and just bring positivity to their day. Thankfully, thank God, it’s doing just that. I dedicate the title to my grandmother. It simply means to git up and be something extravagant today.

  • HONEYSUCKLE & LIGHTNING BUGS

The title HONEYSUCKLE & LIGHTNING BUGS represents the two worlds that I grew up in and the bridging of the gap. I had honeysuckle & lightning bugs in the country and in the hood. Even though the circumstances were different, they always made me feel like I was at home. I would never change the way I grew up. I appreciate the lessons and the blessings. -Blanco Brown
