  Chase: I actually wrote this song with Cale Dodds, Hunter Phelps and Corey Crowder, who’s FGL’s producer, so he obviously played the song for them and they loved it from the get-go. Brian, Tyler and I used to live in a house together 10 years ago and we wrote a bunch of songs back then, so it’s really cool to be doing music for the first time in 10 years. It’s a really special song.

  Cut x Cut (Florida Georgia Line)

  Tyler Hubbard: This song really just means a lot to us, because it’s real… you know? It’s a story, it’s a song about the life that we live and what happens a lot of times when we get together and we’re reminiscing about life and talking about where we’re at, what we’re going through. Having a few drinks, and you know, just being real. [And] we typically start talking about God and what he’s doing in our life and talking about deeper stuff, so it’s a lot of fun and really the first time that I heard this song I could totally relate. Chase is one of those guys that we have a long history together we’ve been roommates before, we’ve had a lot of great memories and a lot of good times… And multiple times we’ve been sitting around ‘Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God.’ so it just felt real, it felt timely, it felt appropriate, it felt like a lot of fun, so we couldn’t wait to jump on it with him and really just an honor to be a part of it.

  Cut x Cut (Florida Georgia Line)

  Brian Kelley: I’ll never forget the day this song landed in a text message from Chase to myself and Tyler and he said “hey boys, we gotta hop on this song. Let’s produce it together, let's record it, let’s put it out, see what happens.” Ya know, the first time I heard it, I was like “yo this song’s a hit, this song feels big it's spiritual, it's powerful, it’s kinda like a party song. It’s got all these emotions and all these feelings in it.” And already was drawn to it just by the title alone. And then, I know the boys wrote a great song that day on the bus. And just super pumped to do a song with Chase Rice, one of my long time best friends. We grew up in Ormond Beach, Florida together in the early days before he moved to North Carolina. We kept up with each other through the years, he would come back home to Ormond we’d go up to North Carolina for the summers and hang on the lake and listen to country music and dream just big dreams. He ended up moving to Nashville with me and Tyler years back and early on in our career. And we were all cutting out teeth together and formed a brotherhood and always been rooting for each other and just super jacked about seeing Chase’s success and it feels like we got the perfect song to finally collab on and just thankful for our friendship, thankful for this song and just excited to see what its gonna do.

  How did FGL get involved?

  Chase: I knew as soon as I started talking with Brian and Tyler that if they got on it, it was probably gonna be our next single because 10 years ago we worked a lot together. We wrote a ton of songs and had a lot of success early, so it was really special for us to get in there and do music again. So if you’re gonna do that, you might as well try to get it into as many ears as possible and that’s what a single does.

  Did you write it before the pandemic started or after? It works in perfectly to the world getting crazy?

  Chase: We actually wrote this one before the pandemic, which is crazy because it’s almost like God was intervening in the song just to say “hey y’all, get ready. You’re gonna have a lot of time to sit around a fire, drink some beer and hang out with me.” Around a fire that’s what I do. I love sitting on a rocking chair on my front porch. I love sitting around a fire on my back porch. And I figure if Jesus drank wine then I can pop a beer and hang out with my buddies and just talk about life, talk about God, talk about whatever comes up. It’s a really special song because it’s so real and it’s such a big part of my life, especially in 2020.

  What does this song mean to you personally?

  Chase: Personally, this song is so special because it’s been a huge, huge part of my life this year — sitting around a fire, sitting on a rocking chair, sitting around with friends around a dinner table… whatever it is, I’ve done that more this year than I’ve ever done in my entire life I think. So it’s a very, very true song for what this year’s been for me and I think a lot of other people can relate.
