  WHITSITT CHAPEL

  What's up y'all this is Jelly Roll and my new album Whitsitt Chapel is about my childhood church, the church I got baptized in when I was fourteen years old. We started writing different songs and I just felt like everything I was writing wasn't telling the right story. Then we wrote a song called "Hungover In A Church Pew" and then a song called "Church" and I knew then that I was gonna write a concept album around my childhood church.

  "HALFWAY TO HELL"

  "Halfway to Hell" baby, the best way to start the album, an absolute banger! I wanted to start this album with something hard, and something that meant something and something that felt something. And something that was about that constant duality of life that I love to write songs about. Being somewhere between right and wrong.

  "CHURCH"

  "Church" which is the second song on the album is actually probably the song that the second song that really made me start writing the Whitsitt Chapel album and scrapping every other song I wrote. I love the idea of this concept that Hardy had about going to church but on a Saturday and it happening in a car and we just kinda put our heads together and this song came out man and its its probably the most moving song on the album for me.

  "THE LOST"

  "The Lost." Man I have so many stories I could tell you just about the behind the scenes of this song but instead I think I want to speak directly to what the song means and what the spirit of the song is. This song is right down the middle saying that you don’t find good people just at church. Good people are everywhere.

  "BEHIND BARS"

  "Behind Bars" I got to put Brantley Gilbert, my best friend in the music business and my best friend of twenty plus years Struggle Jennings on the same song together. I had to make this the fourth song cause I just it just its so brotherly. I love that it’s just a sing-a-long bar song.
  It’s not a very serious song I needed a song, the album was becoming so serious we needed something that just had a little flavor to it and that’s what "Behind Bars" represents.

  "NAIL ME"

  "Nail Me," the song is about feeling persecuted or judged by the people that you would think would understand you. It’s always the hardest when you don’t feel accepted by the people that you thought would be the most accepting of you. And I, I sat around and thought about that a lot and that’s how I came up with the concept for "Nail Me."

  "HOLD ON ME"

  "Hold On Me" is one of my favorite songs on this album because it is so different for what you'd expect or normally see from Jelly Roll. I just want you to hear it and tell me what you get from it, I'm not even gonna spoil it. You gotta check this one out y'all!

  'KILL A MAN"

  "Kill A Man," it's my wife's favorite song on the album probably. I wrote her a love song, I don't write a lot of love songs, cause I'm just you know I'm a lovin' guy but the music side of me is way more therapeutic and dark, but I think this is a cool way to be able to write a love song, but you know, not be so vulnerable.

  "UNLIVE (WITH YELAWOLF)"

  What's up y'all this is Jelly Roll and my new song "Unlive" is out now. This song is about the struggles in the rural south in the trailer parks and apartments. Honestly it kinda reflects on the drug addiction that's plaguing America right now from a first hand experience perspective written.

  "SAVE ME (WITH LAINEY WILSON)"

  "Save Me" song that changed my whole life. I felt like this song has helped millions and millions of people and I believed in my heart that it could help millions and millions more and that's why I wanted to get Lainey Wilson on it and hope that we could touch some more people with this message. If you've heard it, check it out and listen to it fully produced with Lainey Wilson it's a different experience. If you've never heard it, I wanna introduce you to your new favorite song.

  "DANCING WITH THE DEVIL" & "HUNGOVER IN A CHURCH PEW"

  "Dancing With The Devil." "Dancing with the Devil" and "Hungover in a Church Pew" are the final two songs on this album and ironically they were the first two songs I technically wrote for this album and I came back to em a year later after we had wrote "Church" and I had those three songs out of like seventy demos and I said these three songs need to be the platform for the Whitsitt Chapel concept album.

  ON THE ACM PERFORMANCE

  It was insane to perform with Lainey Wilson at the ACMs, who would've ever thought I'd be... one performing on an award show still just unreal to me, but then I get to do it with such a vocalist and somebody who's just on fire like Lainey Wilson is right now.

  WHY LAINEY?

  For me I think it was important to bring somebody that could bring the pain out of "Save Me," and I think Lainey checked that box for me as far as vocally and as far as knowing her struggles and everything she went through to make it in the business. And also I can't say this enough, I felt like this song touched millions of people, but had the potential to touch and help millions more and I think Lainey being a part of it helps that.
